LOCAL POLITICS: Meet the candidates - find out who is standing where across the Erdington constituency, ahead of the upcoming Council elections
Words by Ed King
On 7 May, all 69 political wards across Birmingham will be contested in the upcoming City Council local elections, with candidates asking for your trust and your vote to empower them as your area’s elected representative.
Across the Erdington constituency these are: Castle Vale, Pype Hayes, Graveley Hill, Erdington, Stockland Green, Perry Common, Kingstanding, and Oscott.
The successful candidates will make up the 101 councillors and Cabinet members who represent residents across the city - fighting your corner in the Council chambers and working on broader briefs to support the wider city.
From issues around Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs) and exempt accommodation, to regular rubbish collection and filling in potholes - your local councillor is your voice in Birmingham’s corridors of power.
And with a political landscape that is as levelled as it has ever been, with no such thing as safe seat, these Council elections could see significant changes to who holds the keys of power across Birmingham.
It would be good to know who they are and what they stand for, right?
Erdington Local reached out to all the political parties putting candidates forward and to as many independent candidates as we could access - with everyone given the same questions, opportunity, and word count.
Click on the relevant place name below for a short profile on who is standing to be elected councillor in your area. And on 7 May, make an informed choice.
(All listings are arranged alphabetically - through political party, 'independent' status, or surname.)
