Erdington Local is an independent newspaper and website, covering stories across the Erdington constituency – including Erdington, Castle Vale, Stockland Green, Gravelly Hill, Pype Hayes, Perry Common, and Kingstanding.
It was launched online in April 2020 and sat on the COVID-19 Taskforce, alongside the constituency’s politicians and stakeholders, helping reach people during the lockdowns and provide a platform for local community news and developments.
In November 2021, Erdington Local launched its printed newspaper – which circulates 10,000 copies every month through a network of local volunteers, community groups, schools, and businesses.
Both online and in print, it has a monthly readership of around 80,000.
Erdington Local was established to provide on the ground reporting from the Erdington constituency, written and delivered by people with firsthand knowledge of the area and bult on direct relationships with those who live and work there.
Erdington Local founder and Editor, Ed King, tells: “I have worked in media in Birmingham for many years, from public relations to journalism, and have felt for some time there is a lack of good quality hyper local reporting.
“Without a voice, without a platform to hold individuals and organisations to account, local areas and communities can be lost in misrepresentation by the wider media – or simply ignored.
“Erdington Local gives this constituency a voice, a loud voice, one that is heard at the top of the Local Authority and one can both challenge and celebrate what happens in Erdington.”
